Diné College Team Roper Myles John To Compete At 2013 CNFR

Click for Full Image Tsaile AZ - College Rodeo has ended the regular season across the nation and many will be looking forward to the College National Finals Rodeo on June 9-15, 2013 in Casper Wyoming. Diné College Team Roper, Myles John, 19, and a freshman, will be competing at the annual event. This will be John’s first ever competition at this level and is looking to perform and represent the college at his best.

“I’m very excited and honored to represent Diné College at this years CNFR, there are not very many Native Cowboys or Cowgirls that have this opportunity,” John said. “ The challenge of being a student athlete and attending rodeos is not an easy task, thanks to my family’s support I’ve learned to overcome those boundaries.”

Mr John is from Whitecone, Arizona attending Diné College as Liberal Arts major, His clans are the Tł’izi Łani born for Kinyaa’áanii his maternal grandparents are Naakaii Dine’é and his paternal grandparents are Tódích’íi’nii.

The freshman Cowboy qualified to the CNFR as a heeler and will be teaming up with fellow Grand Canyon Region All Around Cowboy Bryce Runyan of New Mexico State University.

During the regular season Myles roped with teammate Sharriff Sells and made a move in the timed event standings to 4th place with a win at the University of Arizona earlier in the year. Mr Sells said he is pretty optimistic about his teammates chances at the finals.

“He’s deserving of this honor and I wish him the very best.”Shariff Said. “He has set the bar for us and made us look forward to the next season.”

First year Coach Amy Redhorse, said she has high hopes for John and can hardly contain her excitement for him.

“Nothing helps a person improve more than someone who pushes you to be your best. That’s Myles,” she said. “There is no negativity in him or the team, they all did pretty well and I proud of the fact they each successfully completed and competed throughout the semester.
