Tsaile, AZ – Diné College students celebrated their academic achievements and successes at an awards banquet held on April 25, 2013 at the Tsaile Campus. The College has seen a major increase in GPA’s among its students, doubling the numbers on the Dean’s list and Presidents’ Honor Roll from the previous year.
This semester, 109 students earned a spot on the Dean’s list-more than double from the 2011-2012 academic year. The president’s honor Roll also increased by 50% as well, these improvements stabilize future graduation rates at the College.
“I’m impressed with these statistics, it reflects the dedication and efforts of our faculty, their commitment to keep our students on task will produce more graduates from our College,” said President George. “We want to keep our students moving forward onto four year institutions and careers.”
Also in attendance at the event was Ordell Joe, Scholarship Program Administrator for the American Indian College fund. Mr. Joe provided words of encouragement to students and urged students to apply for scholarships offered by the AICF. According to Mr. Joe, Arizona Public Service allocated funds specifically for Diné College students through the American Indian College Fund.
“APS is going to be helpful in so many ways with students achieving academic success so that they can afford the books and tuition payments and any other educational necessities they need,” Mr. Joe said. “We want to encourage all Diné College students to apply with the AICF Full Circle Program so we can have a sizeable applicant pool to choose from and we won’t have to rely on financial aid departments to select the students for us.”
The scholarship will be available for students in the upcoming 2012-2013 semesters for students attending any of the eight Diné College sites. Interested applicants can find more information by visiting www.collegefund.org/scholarships
