Diné College Honors Veterans
Cross Country is off to Nationals
Runners gathered in the early morning chill in Shiprock to participate in the Veteran's Day 5k walk/run and 10k run. The event charged a modest fee of $10, with the proceeds going to the support the Shiprock Veterans Cemetary Memorial Wall. Also featured at the event was an on-site HIV testing provided by the DC HIV Project. In Tsaile, the campus gathered at 8:30 for the Posting of Colors by the Wheatfields/Tsaile/Black Rock Veterans organization. A Flag Song was performed by the Central Navajo Wranglers. Ymelda Erin Coriz, an 8th grader from Tsaile Public School offered the National Anthem in Navajo. Our littlest participant, Erin Morris, who is a 1st grader and hold the title of Lil Miss Sha'a'toha, offered the Pledge of Allegiance in Navajo. Honor Songs and Flag Songs were offered by Mario Tenequer and Trevor Foster, ABNDC member and the Central Navajo Wranglers. The Student Success Center hosted a continental breakfast for the community.

The events in Tsaile continued through the afternoon with a luncheon for Vets and entertainment. Newly crowned Miss Diné College, Lilya Begay welcomed the community. Performances included:
• Clarinet Solo: Miss Diné College Runner Up, Nicole, Yazzie
• Diné Traditional Vocal Groups/Solo: Central Navajo Wranglers & Erin Morris
• Talent Show Selection Performance - Josie Redhouse
• Dance performance by Lady Yazzie The events for the day were sponsored collectively by Academic Advising and the SOS Staff of Student
Services in Tsaile; and Shiprock DC Security.
